Floater Frame (also known as "american frame/box") is very popular and often used by galleries and interior designers. The photograph seems to float in the frame. Such a frame gives it a lot of style and an original impression of depth.
The photographic print is laminated on a 1 mm thick aluminum plate. This assembly is then framed in a made-to-measure Floater Box. Its overall depth is of 40 mm, the space around the photograph and the inside edges of the frame is 10 mm.
The colour of the frame itself can be either black, or white, or oak/maple wood, or wenge/walnut wood.
(in this case (only) the photographs isn't covered by a glass)
Floating Box is a very original new type of frame.
Within it the print is perceived like in suspension above the bottom of the frame.
The print is mounted on a 1 mm aluminum plate which is then placed between the glass and the bottom of the support. It's surrounded by a 60 mm (2,5") space.
The background can be either white, or cream, or black.
The colour of the frame itself can be either black, or white, or oak/maple wood, or wenge/walnut wood.
Art Frame is a classic and elegant display.
The print is mounted on a 1 mm thick aluminum plate, is surrounded by a beveled passe-partout and is placed behind a glass.
The passe-partout has a wraparound border of 60 mm (2,5") and is made of Canson Conservation paper (ISO 9706 compliant).
The passe-partout can be either couloured in white, or cream, or black.
The colour of the frame itself can be either black, or white, or oak/maple wood, or wenge/walnut wood.
The Box is a frame which starts exactly at the edge of the print which is beforehand laminated on a 1 mm aluminum plate.
A protective glass is placed in front of the photograph.
The colour of the frame itself can be either black, or white, or oak/maple wood, or wenge/walnut wood.
Alu frame offer a modern and simple metallic display.
The frame starts exactly at the edges of the print. This last is beforehand laminated on a 1 mm aluminum plate. A protective glass is placed in front of the photograph.
The colour of the frame itself can be either mate black, or glossy black, or white, or brushed (aluminium).
Summary
Colours available are :
-
matte black, white, oak tree / maple wood, wenge/walnut wood - for most frames
-
matte or glossy black, white, brushed aluminum - for aluminum frames (the last one in the list)
Frames dimensions :
-
art frames, floating boxes and boxes are usually 20 mm wide and 40 mm deep (20/40)(other width/depth available on request : 15/30, 20/30, 20/50, 25/50, 25/55)
-
floater frames are either in (5/40) or (8/40) ((width (mm)/depth(mm))
-
alu frames offer no choice for their intrinsic dimensions
All framed prints are delivered with 2mm anti-reflective glass (except for floater frames (the first one in the list), which come without glass, and for alu frame (ordinary glass)).
The final size of the framed print will be bigger than the photograph print itself.
It'll be equal to the sum of :
-
the size of the photograph print [P] +
-
(twice) the space [S] between the borders of the print and the internal edges of the frame +
-
(twice) the width/thickness [W] of the frame
being :
final size = [P] + 2 x [S] + 2 x [W]
Usually :
[W] = 20 mm (for 20/40 frames (for many frames, for example))
[W] = 8 mm (for 8/40 frames (for floater frames, for example))
and
[S] = 0 mm for alu and box frames
[S] = 10 mm for floater frame
[S] = 60 mm for art frame and floating box
For example, the external dimensions of a (20/40) art frame for a 120 x 80 cm (48x32") print will be : 136 x 96 cm (54,4x38,4").
