Currently the content of this website is mainly photographs.
Photographs made with carefully chosen : cameras, lenses, filters and also with passion, patience, dedication, involvement, efforts, care, taste, etc..
Real photography. Genuine photography. "In camera photography" for those who understand, or better : on sensor photography.
I mean : drawn with light..., on the sensor of the camera. Not drawings on files data with a software on a computer... or even with advanced image processing inside the camera (ie : on sensor photography !).
It's not really complicated to make real photographs, but it seems very few want to learn, or care about it... Not the real purpose of most actually... If you watch closely : they don't care about light neither... Embarrassing for "photo"-graphy or "photo"-graphers...
INSPIRATION
I had a lot ideas by myself (I'm used to find possibilities (routes, etc.) by myself in mountain ranges, worldwide, without prior informations, if necessary at the last minute, most of the time : not for photography but just for "discovery", pleasure, etc.). Nevertheless (long ago) some people inspired me to some degree, convinced me to dedicate more time to "exploration" and photography in southern Patagonia.
I think to :
-
Jack Brauer, the photographs of his first trip there,
-
I discovered Alberto de Agostini's work quite late (book availability then !). I had already done a lot of work in the field and learnt a lot on some areas. But of course it convinced me to study (alone) the possibilities to reach some places,
-
some (now old, but from this century/millennium :) ) alpine photographs by Rolando Garibotti struck my mind too (from Arca de los Vientos, etc.)(though I'm absolutely not able to go in these environments) and convinced me to spend time in the region.
Warning
To be clear, my photographs have been archived for years. I'll often have means to prove that I wasn't inspired by recent photographers (by way of metadata, or simply and even more obviously : through changes in the landscapes themselves (substantials !) caught on photographs or in videos, etc.). I think to unusual photographs, from some unfrequented places, which were published in a hurry few years ago. So : don't blame me too quick... (we simply don't have the same purpose...)(and currently this website doesn't tell very much about my purposes...)
TECHNICAL NOTES
Photography
I work with high quality equipments :
-
carefully chosen high quality lenses (with good resolution from the center to far edges, especially at f8), sometimes heavy in a backpack...,
-
a high quality professional camera, with a big sensor (FF), and not too much pixels (because small pixels are bad...),
-
good quality filter (POL, ND, GND, etc.), to work with light
Image post-processing
I work with high quality equipments (Eizo ColorEdge, i1 Pro) for minimalistic post-processing on the light signals recorded on the sensor of my camera through filters and lens.
Post-processing of the corresponding raw files consist only in 3+ steps :
-
adjust the black and white point levels,
-
a simple adjustment of tonality curve,
-
color neutralization,
-
(possible correction of lens vignetting and/or distorsion)
And absolutly no (trendy & fancy & chitchatted) (or exceptionally* and then announced):
-
dodging and burning,
-
blending,
-
HDR,
-
etc.
because I'm interested by photography stricto sensu, I'm interested by working with the light (with filters), and with the good light (not with random one). Usually good and genuine photography is done at the best moment of the good day, or night. Not at any time... Except on extremely lucky opportunities.
This is what I keep to for photographs published online.
Regarding prints and more specifically large prints, of course I improve the sharpness of the photographs after their enlargement.
